Certified Fund Raising Executive Accreditation

A professional designation from a recognized certification board is increasingly important to many organizations recruiting fundraising and development personnel. The most recognized professional designation for fundraiser's in the world is the CFRE designation.

CFRE stands for Certified Fund Raising Executive. In 1996 the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) and the National Society of Fundraising Executives (NSFRE) consolidated an internationally recognized credentialing program for fundraising executives. Being accredited under this program does more than give you a professional designation on paper. Here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Challenges you to excel on the job
  • Continues your education and training
  • Demonstrates your commitment to your colleagues and your community
  • Recognizes your personal and professional achievement.

If you are currently and have been employed in the field of fundraising, resource development and management for five years or more, then you should seriously consider pursuing the accreditation process.

You can learn about all the benefits of the CFRE designation along with requirements for gaining this certification in the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) Candidate Handbook. The CFRE application can be downloaded from www.ahp.org or www.CFRE.org or this information can be received by writing to:

Philanthropy Pathway
The Philanthropy Pathway outlines opportunities offered under the guidance of AHP, which will assist you in pursuit of your CFRE or FAHP designation. The chart organizes the information into a menu with four levels of experience to help you make decisions about which opportunities will work for you now and later in your development career. We encourage you to use the pathway when developing your career path or when you assist your direct reports with their career plan.
